Today mom and I are headed to Escalon to pick up some Char-Siu or Chinese BBQ Pork for our New Years Day food table.

Lunch first then a stop at the cemetery to place some fresh flowers for the New Year then to Escalon.

Lunch will be at the SunsHins Chinese Restaurant. It is in the building that once housed the Victory Fountain just a long block west of Victory Park. It is on the northeast corner of Monte Diablo and Buena Vista just across Buena Vista from Victory Elementary School.

Jim has owned and run SunsHins since late 2008. Before that he used to work in the kitchen at China Palace

His son and a little older daughter were here today

It is a cold, wintry day so I order a bowl of Wor Won Ton Soup for mom and I to share. And I order a Lunch Special of Honey Walnut Shrimp with rice.

The Wor Won Ton Soup

Normally you get a small bowl of soup included with the Special Lunch, but since we had a big bowl of soup. I skipped the soup which today was Won Ton Soup.

The bowls that we are using for our individual soup is the same bowl that is served with the Lunch

As we begin to eat John F and Howard J enter the place. It seems that John had seen my Facebook post about the restaurant and was going to give it a try.

They also ordered the Wor Won Ton Soup for starters.

Howard who is Chinese decides on the lo fan (please Google if you need to) combination #4.

John has the Curry Chicken Lunch Special but opts for the $0.50 extra Pork Chow Mein in place of the rice

Below is my bill for today's lunch.

Next we head to the cemetery and the grave site where my father's parents, my brother and my father are buried.

Then it is off to Escalon to pick up our char-siu.

The Chinese couple, who own Wong's Deli and their two young kids would have a snack at Yum Yum Donuts before heading to Escalon. My parents would stop at that Yum Yum for a break on their daily neighborhood walk and see them often. That was over 16 years ago. The young girl is now a sophomore at Harvard and the boy is a sophomore at Escalon High School.
