Today mom and I are headed to Escalon to pick up some Char-Siu or Chinese BBQ Pork for our New Years Day food table.

Lunch first then a stop at the cemetery to place some fresh flowers for the New Year then to Escalon.

Lunch will be at the SunsHins Chinese Restaurant. It is in the building that once housed the Victory Fountain just a long block west of Victory Park. It is on the northeast corner of Monte Diablo and Buena Vista just across Buena Vista from Victory Elementary School.

Jim has owned and run SunsHins since late 2008. Before that he used to work in the kitchen at China Palace

His son and a little older daughter were here today

It is a cold, wintry day so I order a bowl of Wor Won Ton Soup for mom and I to share. And I order a Lunch Special of Honey Walnut Shrimp with rice.

The Wor Won Ton Soup

Normally you get a small bowl of soup included with the Special Lunch, but since we had a big bowl of soup. I skipped the soup which today was Won Ton Soup.

The bowls that we are using for our individual soup is the same bowl that is served with the Lunch

As we begin to eat John F and Howard J enter the place. It seems that John had seen my Facebook post about the restaurant and was going to give it a try.

They also ordered the Wor Won Ton Soup for starters.

Howard who is Chinese decides on the lo fan (please Google if you need to) combination #4.

John has the Curry Chicken Lunch Special but opts for the $0.50 extra Pork Chow Mein in place of the rice

Below is my bill for today's lunch.

Next we head to the cemetery and the grave site where my father's parents, my brother and my father are buried.

Then it is off to Escalon to pick up our char-siu.

The Chinese couple, who own Wong's Deli and their two young kids would have a snack at Yum Yum Donuts before heading to Escalon. My parents would stop at that Yum Yum for a break on their daily neighborhood walk and see them often. That was over 16 years ago. The young girl is now a sophomore at Harvard and the boy is a sophomore at Escalon High School.

Valley Springs, CA

Today mom and I were suppose to have breakfast at Leno's Birdcage Cafe, but there was a sign on their door saying they were closed for today to attend a funeral.

So we decided to drive about an hour to Valley Springs to have an early lunch at Good Friends Chinese Buffet. They open at 11:00 AM and we are leaving Stockton just before 10:00 AM.

The quickest route is to take Hwy 26 through Linden, but that would get us to the restaurant about 15 minutes before they open. So we head north to Lodi and will take Hwy 12 which will take 10 minutes longer. Well with a bit of a slow down on Hwy 12 for road construction we actually arrive at Good Friends right at 11:00 AM.
Good Friends is located on the northeast corner of the intersection where Hwy 26 joins Hwy 12

This photo is from Hwy 26 looking north. At the intersection Hwy 26 turns right and Hwy 26 and Hwy 12 become the same road for a few miles. Hwy 12 is to both the right and left at the intersection.

This is a busy intersection for the foothills. Although there are really no traffic jams in this sparsely populated region

The buffet prices

We come to this place every couple of months so mom has learned her way around the buffet.

Some wasabi and soy sauce

Have to have some chop sticks

Mom still puts too much on her plate, though

I just get a few items since I know that I will get another plate or two. :-)

My second plate

We are taking Hwy 26 back to Stockton since we have to deliver some items to a friends home in South Stockton.

Today I am taking mom to my almost daily breakfast stop. I ride my bicycle the almost four miles; have breakfast; relax and then ride a four, five or six mile bicycle ride home.

As we enter Joe, a friend of ours since 1948 comes over to greet mom. They used to see each other often and go to lunch together but it has been about a year now.

Today is a breakfast, not lunch at The Avenue Grill in Lodi, CA. I have to return some papers in Lodi so this is a favorite breakfast place of mine in Lodi. Cousin Millie is staying with Mom for a week and will be taking Mom back to Orange County with her tomorrow for an extended visit.

Now here is my small breakfast, an egg, potatoes and a small hamburger patty with an English muffin. Some A1 on the hamburger and Tabasco sauce on the egg.

My brother used to use his left fore finger just like Mom when he ate

After breakfast we head over to Dee Dee's home. I have to drop off some papers with Dee Dee, a high school classmate of mine. Dee Dee wants to show Mom her Koi Pond.
